Surbhi Sheth-Shah

Surbhi started her college counseling practice to address the growing need for individualized attention for high-school students preparing for their college admissions process.
As a proud parent of two successful college-bound children, she knows how stressful these years were at times in our home. With so much information from our high school, from the colleges, and on the Internet, she and her husband, like any other parents, felt overwhelmed and confused. They tried hard to filter all this information down to what really applied to our children. They tried hard to help them without nagging them!
Their successful experience and her desire to reduce this overwhelming stress for parents and students convinced her to take college counseling up on a professional basis. She went back to school to UC Berkeley, and got certified in College Admissions and Career Planning. Now, on an ongoing basis, she and Amitabh visit colleges and talk to the admissions officers to understand what they are looking for in their applicants. She continues to attend counseling industry seminars to learn the best practices for this unique professional practice.
Her hope is to make the college application process goal-oriented and less stressful for the students. After an initial information gathering meeting, she identifies several summer programs and colleges for her students that match their aptitude, interests, abilities, and where they will be happy and successful. She works with them to make their application stand out in the crowd with their personal story. She is the student’s advocate in this process.
Surbhi was an active parent volunteer at the Career Center of Lynbrook High School (San Jose CA) and continues to volunteer as a college counselor for Boys & Girls Club of Peninsula, a non-profit college prep program aimed at first-generation and under-resourced communities. She was a high tech executive for a Fortune 500 company for many years and has over 13 years of counseling experience working with students in both public and private high schools. She also has an MBA from University of North Carolina. She uses her professional experience to help students plan and stay organized during their high school years.
